June 21, 2014 @ 5:00 pm
If you’re nearby, this isn’t an event you want to miss out on. Expect a great time with some of Brooklyn’s most creative individuals
Over the past year, artist Stephen Small-Warner and producer Gavin Webb have collaborated to create ‘Stoop 55’ an 8 episode docu-series with a very unlikely venue. Transforming a humble Brooklyn brownstone’s stoop into a stage, they present an intimate look into the artist’s journey. !
Combining in-depth interviews and live performances, Stoop 55 creates an organic atmosphere for up and coming artists to present their truest selves. “They allow me to do what I do, but at the same time ask the important questions about my craft,” says singer Geminelle Rollins. Taking place in Bedford-Stuyvesant provides a gritty ambience, with the neighborhood serving as the audience. What started off as a one off project has turned into a campaign by the 2 creators to provide a grassroots platform for creativity to take center stage. “Often times we see artist interviews after or during their fame, we wanted to take a look at the upcoming artist and their craft while its fresh”, says SmallWarner a recent graduate of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
In the age of Netflix induced binge watching, the two partners felt it best to release all 8 episodes at once. “We wanted the viewer to be able to experience and live with each episode at their leisure” says Webb currently studying Media Management at The New School University, NY campus. The full season will be available on YouTube June 21st. The team has decided to throw a concert on the stoop in celebration of the show on the day of its release. Through their web series they are able to reach a mass audience who are seeking genuine and original content.
